About Gin Gin

Gin Gin

Gin Gin is Virginia Ingram, a jewelry maker specializing in knotting on silk using semi-precious stones and imported glass beads.

While living in NYC during the dotcom boom and bust, Virginia decided that she was never going to be able to afford to buy all the lovely things she saw in the shops in Brooklyn and Manhattan. She started making presents for her friends for holidays to save money and make meaningful presents.

Some of them were not really used (bath salts), but some of them ended up being a big hit (homemade liquors)! When Virginia discovered jewelry, people not only wanted her necklaces for presents, but began requesting them to give as gifts.

And Gin Gin was born.

Virginia has been making and selling her jewelry in her free time since early 2004.

Virginia currently lives in a converted tobacco warehouse in Durham, NC. Monday through Friday, you can find her leading Web initiatives at Capstrat, a design and PR agency in Raleigh.

Gin Gin is a nickname her family gave her when she was a little girl. Virginia has a sister named Karen that still lives in Brooklyn, NY. Her parents, Connie and Stebbins, live outside of Charlotte, NC.

Megan Sullivan and Elizabeth Hipps (Lilly and Remains) are featured on this Web site as well.

Megan Sullivan

Megan's pillowsAfter majoring in sculpture in undergrad at UNCG, Megan moved to Detroit to go to Cranbrook Academy of Art. While at Cranbrook, Megan fell in love with Theremin (the man and the musical instrument) and began making Theremins. After Grad School Megan moved to NYC to pursue a career in temping.

Living in her one and a half bedroom apartment, she realized she was not going to be able to continue making Theremins (or any three-dimensional items for that matter) and started making flat items that included a variety of silhouettes (drawings and quilts). Her subject continued to be Theremin, but she also picked up Clara Rockmore (a Theremin virtuoso) and Lenin, among others.

Megan began making pillows about 2 years ago when she returned to North Carolina.  The first was for a friend to remember her by and the next few for Lekkner’s Crafters for Critters.  People started contacting Megan about her pillows from there.  These days, the theremins are in the closet and her silhouette topics are more varied and dependent on what she’s interested in at the time (birds, birds, birds), but she still continues to make and is content with that process.

Megan loves shoes, plastic trinkets (especially jewelry), french fries, her two fantastic dogs, and working at an emergency vet clinic.  She also loves email.  Write her.
